In January 2008 the German
Shepherd Schutzhund Club was founded by American German Shepherd Enthusiasts together with experienced German and Swiss Breeders
who immigrated to Southwest Florida over the past years.
Goal of all of our Club Members is to promote the German Shepherd
Dog to his highest potential and to develop his great abilities in Game and Sport. All this will help the German Shepherd
dog to live up to his destiny he is bread to since more than 100 years. His destiny to be a Family Companion, a Red Cross
Helper, a Herding Dog, a Search and Rescue Asset, a Crime Fighter for Police and a Guide dog or Therapy Dog for handicapped
Children, Men and Women.
The German Shepherd Dog is the total Dog – limited only by his owners time and effort
he put forth to train and guide him.
We meet every Sunday Morning at 9.00 in North Fort Myers. Here we train and socialize
our Dogs with other Humans and other Dogs. Humans and Dogs are learning Traffic Sureness, Obedience and depending on Owner
and Dog the ultimate Schutzdienst/Protection).
Schutzhund Training includes Traffic Sureness BH), Obedience, Tracking and
Protection (Schutzdienst). It means also to show the dog situations where he
needs to announce a “stranger”
thru barking, he has to learn and decide when he needs to go one step further and is allowed to bite and the most important
thing, that he stops attacking immediately after the attacker stops attacking. This Training will be in form from sport and
fun but only self secure Dogs and Owners will be allowed to participate. Aggressive Dogs or Dogs with weak character will
not be permitted to participate in the Schutzdienst (Protection) Training.
Our very experienced Breed Warden,
Gerard Thanhoffer, will be available for Members who have questions about the German Shepherd Dog as well as for Members who
want to breed themselves. In over 20 years he has bread over 200 German Shepherds, a lot of them won national and international
Titles.
And of course we have a lot of social club events with a lot of fun for dogs and dog owners.

Single Membership is 60,00/year, Membership for German Shepherd Schuzhund Club of SW Florida is $ 40,00/year.
